This heat wave will intensify, but relief is in sight

Heat alerts are already in effect for dangerous heat index temperatures. Thankfully a late-week cold front is increasingly likely.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A weekend with lower humidity was nice, but unfortunately not only is the humidity rising, the actual temperatures are too. As a result, heat alerts are already in effect for portions of the area, with more likely in the coming days.

Tuesday the heat index will climb between 100-108 during the hottest part of the day. A heat advisory is in effect between noon and 9pm for Sequoyah, Crawford,  Sebastian, and Franklin Counties.

Dangerous heat will continue to be the top weather story the first half of this week, but thankfully a pair of weak cold fronts will move through beginning Thursday and provide some minor relief that will last through the weekend. While a significant cool down isn't likely, temperatures will fall back to more seasonable, or "normal", levels.

When it comes to rainfall, these fronts leave a lot to be desired. Rain chances are minimal Friday through the weekend. A few spotty showers are expected, but coverage will be minimal with most staying dry the next several days.
