Lights of the Ozarks changes date of annual parade

The lighting ceremony in the square will still happen the week before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22, but the parade was moved to Thursday, Dec. 5.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Several families in Arkansas flock to Fayetteville's square around December for a timeless holiday tradition — the Lights of the Ozarks. This year, that tradition may look a little different.

For the first time, the Lights of the Ozarks lighting ceremony and parade will be on different nights a couple of weeks apart. The lighting ceremony in the square will still happen the week before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22, but the parade was moved to Thursday, Dec. 5.

Event organizers said the schedule change is meant to spread out the fun. They also think those who participate will be better prepared.

"This gives the folks a chance to really get their floats prepared for the parade," Sarah King with Experience Fayetteville said. "If you've come to the Lights of the Ozarks parade, you know that there are dancers, baton twirlers, and lots of really terrific and innovative floats."

The lights are free and open to the public. The display will be up from Nov. 22, 2024, to Jan. 1, 2025.
