SPRINGDALE, Ark. — 5NEWS, the area’s #1 source for news and weather, has named Michael Aaron as the news director. He is being promoted to his new position after serving as the station’s assistant news director since May 2022.

Michael has more than a decade of newsroom experience. That includes nine years with 5NEWS’ parent company, TEGNA, as an anchor and reporter at KTHV in Little Rock and KYTX in Tyler, Texas. Prior to that, he worked as an assignment editor at KXAN in Austin, Texas.

From an early age, Michael dreamed of working as a reporter. He brings a passion for storytelling and connecting with the community into his new role.

“When I walked into 5NEWS, I never could’ve imagined where the journey would take me,” Michael said. “It is a privilege to work for a station with such a rich legacy that is full of so many kind, dedicated people. I’m grateful for this opportunity to lead the newsroom and continue its mission of community-focused storytelling. My focus remains on helping our team evolve and grow while serving the greater good of 5COUNTRY.”

Michael will oversee the 5NEWS daily operations and newsroom strategy.

“It is clear Michael champions our commitment to the communities we serve, our viewers, and our team,” 5NEWS general manager Van Comer said. “He‘s a proven, effective leader exhibiting the core values needed to guide our content and people.”

Michael, a native of Burkburnett, Texas, holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a proud golden retriever dad who enjoys live music, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
